This session describes the San Luis Valley Physical Education Academy—a K-12 physical education professional development program involving 40 PE teachers in 47 schools in low-income rural Colorado. The Academy offers the field of physical education teacher education a model for improving the quality of PE in small, resource-poor, rural districts. Lessons learned have implications for PE teacher educators, researchers, and organizations considering professional development interventions in similar geographical areas.
