Developing fundamental motor skill competence is critical to lifelong physical activity. This presentation will illustrate an evidenced-based motor skill program called Successful Kinesthetic Instruction for Preschoolers (SKIP) based on 20 years of research. The SKIP program systematically “engineers” instructional constraints to provide a variety of tasks differing in difficultly, provides freedom for children to navigate their own path, and scaffolds learning on key program features. Ongoing assessment is provided using motor passports to inform progress.
