Professional development is a major focus of contemporary efforts to improve education and plays a key role in addressing the gap between teacher preparation and standards-based reform. The purpose of this session is to discuss what is known about effective professional development and identify future directions for effective physical education professional development. Specific goals include: (1) understanding what premises underlie effective professional development, and (2) applying current knowledge to guide future directions of professional development.
