0 Using a Variety-Centered Curriculum and It's Influence on Situational Interest

Thursday, October 4, 2012: 9:00 AM-9:50 AM
Planet Hollywood: Celebrity Ballroom 5
NASPE/Meeting the Needs of Today’s K-12 Students and Schools
Speaker: John Mercer, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL
As students continually become disinterested in physical education, the subject is often scrutinized for it's repetition in curriculum and activities offered. This session will explore the results of a mixed methods study that examined the experiences of seventh and eighth grade students in a curriculum that emphasizes variety through it's rotating schedule and non-traditional activities. In addition, the session will involve participants by discussing the implementation and possible benefits of transitioning to a variety-centered curriculum.
