0 Providing Advanced Professional Development to Physical Education Teachers: Lessons Learned

Saturday, October 6, 2012: 10:30 AM-11:20 AM
Planet Hollywood: Santa Monica 2
NASPE/Preparing Teachers for Today’s K-12 Students and Schools (e.g., Technology, Cultural Competency/Relevance, Adapted PE, Coaching Education)
Speakers: Dominique Banville1; Rebecca K. Fox2; and C. Stephen White2, (1)George Mason University, Manassas, VA, (2)George Mason University, Fairfax, VA
This session is intended for attendees interested in learning more about a master's degree program focused on providing licensed teachers a way to enhance their content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. Since career-long professional development offered to PE teachers is limited in scope, and is sometimes even ineffective or inappropriate (Armour, 2010), the session will offer an in-depth look at learning gained by practicing physical education teachers enrolled in the program.
