Service-learning is a pedagogy that bridges academic study and community engagement (Cress, 2005). Participation in service learning positively impacts pre-service teacher’s cultural competence (Domangue & Carson, 2008). This presentation will highlight the unique PETE curricula at Texas State University that successfully integrates service-learning programs throughout multiple and varied PETE courses. Theory, rationale, implementation strategies and student benefits specifically related to the development of pre-service educator’s cultural competence will be presented.
