The absence of a functional definition of PCK has led to a significant problem in discussing and using PCK in research and practice (Amade-Escot, 2000). An operationalized definition is needed in order to accurately, effectively, and reliably observe and measure PCK. In this presentation, three variables that represent PE teachers’ PCK using Ward (2009b) and Shulman’s (1986) definition will be defined and ways to develop PCK in PETE programs will be discussed.
