Some scholars suggest that research-based PETE programs produce pedagogically capable teachers with weak content knowledge. The purposes of this session will be to: (1) explain current models by which pre-service teachers acquire content knowledge, (2) describe one PETE program’s efforts to facilitate content knowledge acquisition, and (3) stimulate discussion among attendees about how best to deliver content courses. This session should be of use to those training pre-service teachers and designing PETE curricula.
