0 Surviving and Thriving in the Roles of Coaching and Teaching

Thursday, October 4, 2012: 4:00 PM-4:50 PM
Planet Hollywood: Melrose 4
NASPE/Preparing Teachers for Today’s K-12 Students and Schools (e.g., Technology, Cultural Competency/Relevance, Adapted PE, Coaching Education)
Speaker: C. Craig Stewart, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT
This session will provide teacher/coaches recommendations to assist in surviving and thriving in both roles. Based upon the author’s 30+ years of coaching, sport administration, and coach education, he collected qualitative data from athletes, athletic administrators, and parents concerning what they wanted in coaches, and the characteristics they described as their ‘best’ and ‘worst’ coaches. The results modify and improve basic coach education at the university levels and in coach education programs at the state level.
