Using peers as natural supports in general physical education promotes positive interactions and gains in social learning for students with severe disabilities. Learning the communicative behaviors is the first step in recognizing attempts to initiate conversation between peers. This presentation will include the adoption of a “holistic” perspective that addresses collaborative practices, the development of a communicative dictionary, cueing techniques for non-disabled peers, and lesson plans that detail the scripts used to facilitate peer interactions.
