Data are needed to advocate for programs. This session provides participants an opportunity to be better informed about the advantages and disadvantages of using direct observation to assess physical activity and its contexts; published observation tools for assessing physical activity and related contextual variables in various settings, including physical education (SOFIT), leisure time at school (SOPLAY), and community parks and recreation centers (SOPARC); and, viable procedures for training reliable observers and managing and analyzing data.
