“More Than a Game:” Impact of The First Tee Life Skills Programs on Positive Youth Development |
We report results evaluating the effectiveness of The First Tee in teaching life skills and core values. Positive youth development is likely to occur when young people are (a) engaged in a desired activity within an appropriate environment (context), (b) surrounded by caring adults and a positive community (external resources), and (c) learning skills important for managing life situations (internal assets). The First Tee is a youth development program that has these components in place. Through interviews with youth, coaches, and parents, our data show that The First Tee is having a positive impact on young people’s psychosocial development. |
