Writing for Publication: The Editors’ Points of View...Helpful Hints and Tips From the Top |
A truism for researchers and scholars is, “A scientific experiment, no matter how spectacular the results, is not completed until the results are published” (Day, 1983). This symposium offers current and future researchers an excellent opportunity to learn about key factors associated with publishing high quality and high impact scholarship in a range of AAHPERD-related research journals. The invited editors will demystify and debunk common misconceptions and myths associated with publishing in their respective journal or area, as well as overview the focus, mission, publication, and review process from an editors’ point of view. It brings together an all-star line-up of journal editors representing each of the research-oriented journals published by an AAHPERD-related association, as well as the area of Dance. Specifically, James H. Price, Editor, American Journal of Health Education (AAHE); Virginia G. Overdorf, Editor, Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal (NAGWS); William Considine, Co-Editor, Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science (AAALF); Barbara L. Michiels Hernandez, Editor, A Moving Landscape: Dance Pedagogy for the 21st Century (NDA); and Stephen Silverman, Editor-in-Chief, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (Research Consortium), will overview the review and publication process of their respective journal or area, as well as offer sage advice on writing research, submission procedures, responding to reviewers’ comments, and revising manuscripts for further publication consideration. An overriding aim is to help you maximize the probability of your manuscript being favorably reviewed and published. Whether you are a first time author interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the publication process or a senior scholar interested in exploring new or alternative outlets for your research, this session will be of benefit to you. |
