"Which" Issue in Validation Of Physical Activity Measures? |
The exploration of the effects of physical activity into many different populations has created a need for an up-to-date understanding of the concepts of validity and reliability, important psychometric features. Researchers must tackle many important questions when dealing with physical activity instruments. Which evidence of validity is needed for the instrument and how does it relate to the unified validity concept. Another issue is which criterion measure should be used in validation studies. Often in physical activity research the selection of which criterion measures is vital to successfully establish evidence of validity. There are not only content related questions but also the issue of which coefficients have been used in the past. In addition, no instrument can be valid without establishing reliability evidence but what type of reliability. What are the common trends and errors in past physical activity reliability research? The purpose of this symposium is to provide details about physical activity instruments and which validity evidence has been and should be collected. Special attention will focus on addressing the issue of selecting the right criterion measure. A review of the commonly used coefficients will be discussed. Finally, important issues in which reliability has been used in physical activity investigations. |
