Growth, Physical Activity, and Performance: Perspectives From Physical Education and Anthropology |
Professor Malina has had a teaching and research career in both physical education and anthropology. The focus of the research has been children and adolescents in a variety of contexts. Several of these will be highlighted in this session: (1) physical activity and performance during the adolescent growth spurt; (2) tracking of physical activity and fitness from childhood and adolescence into adulthood; (3) growth and maturation of young athletes; (4) youth sports and physical activity among urban Mexican youth; and (5) functional consequences of under-nutrition among rural children in Oaxaca, southern Mexico. |
