Be Proactive: Exertional Heat Illnesses and Emergency Planning |
Many cases of exertional heat illness are preventable and can be successfully treated if onsite personnel accurately identify the condition and implement appropriate care. Current information on the subject is plentiful, but conflicting. For that reason, medical and scientific experts on the Inter-Association Task Force on Exertional Heat Illnesses have compiled guidelines to increase safety and performance for individuals engaged in physical activity.
The consensus statement, which focuses on dehydration, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and hyponatremia, will be presented. Learn what the experts say is the key to preventing, recognizing and treating exertional heat illnesses. |
