MASSPEC Day: Swing Dance Techniques for the Physical Education Generalist: Some New Tools for the Toolbox |
The purpose of this session is to provide physical educators with jitterbug (a.k.a. swing-dancing) teaching tools that not only inspire students, but also introduce them to a high-energy fitness activity that requires a higher degree of athleticism, due to lifts and spins, than traditional folk or square dance.
Session participants will learn basic jitterbug steps (and ways to teach them) by using blindfolds and other auditory and visual cues to increase the development of fine motor skills for their students. These teaching tools can be utilized for teaching fine motor skill activities to students who struggle to process information visually. |
