Drug Testing and Programs: Are They Effective? |
During the last few decades, drug testing has been used at different levels of athletic competition including high school athletics. Recently, several court cases have determined the legality of drug testing programs in high schools across the United States. In addition, the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) has implemented a Student Athlete Testing Using Random Notification (SATURN) program to objectively access if drug use can be prevented in high school athletes. This program will include a discussion of the components of a drug-testing program and will also determine the effectiveness of preventing drug use. |
