Positive Youth Development Strategies: Sport Psychology Perspectives |
While enhancing elite athletes’ performance has been a major focus for sport psychologists, efforts have been made to achieve the goal of developing youth through sport participation. Many sport psychologists and physical educators have discussed the positive benefits of sports; young people learn skills and values through sports that help them be successful in their lives. The purpose of the session is to initiate a discussion between physical educators and sport psychologists who are committed to achieve this common goal. Specifically, four youth development approaches within sport psychology will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on sharing hands-on strategies. |
