Professional Ethics in Practice: Teaching Ethical Reasoning in Human Kinetics |
The purpose of this presentation is to examine the value of using a contextual and integrated approach to teaching ethics in Human Kinetics. We report findings from a study that examined former students’ application of classroom methods of reasoning in real life settings. The findings show that the students had difficulty recalling ethical concepts from class, but could identify examples of moral problems they had resolved, including cases of sexual harassment and issues of responsibility and honesty. The participants indicated that critical discussions in class were most helpful. Implications for future research and teaching Human Kinetics ethics courses are discussed. |
