0 Where’s the Beef? Preparing Teachers Who are Skilled and Fit

Saturday, October 6, 2012: 2:30 PM-3:20 PM
Planet Hollywood: Santa Monica 2
NASPE/Preparing Teachers for Today’s K-12 Students and Schools (e.g., Technology, Cultural Competency/Relevance, Adapted PE, Coaching Education)
Speakers: Suzan F. Ayers, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI; Bonnie T. Blankenship, Purdue University, W Lafayette, IN; Kathryn L. Davis, Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC; and Jacalyn Lund, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA
In this session, we will discuss topics surrounding the issue of motor skill and performance competency and physical fitness in physical education majors. Should PE majors be required to demonstrate motor skill competency and fitness? If so, in what specific areas? What should be a minimal level of competency and fitness? What are the best means of assessing these competencies? Presenters will share their ideas and invite participants to join in the conversation.
