Social competence in physical education remains underdeveloped unless teachers include social skills learning strategies in the curriculum. This session will provide ways of how teachers can incorporate the development of social competence of students in physical education without impeding skill development and physical activity level. Three evidence-based strategies for teaching social skills, such as group contingencies self-management and classwide peer tutoring will be presented. A discussion will follow with suggestions for teacher training programs.
