The use of retired teachers as adjunct professors to supervise student teachers is an increasing practice among university teacher preparation programs. These supervisors do not share the same common philosophical beliefs about physical education teacher preparation. In this study university tenure-track and adjunct supervisors observed student teachers’ instruction and assessed it using qualitative and quantitative measures. Debriefing sessions were audio-taped, a qualitative analysis of anecdotal notes was conducted and inter-rater reliability measures were calculated.
