Acosta & Carpenter’s annual survey has noted a declining number of women coaches in college sports since the late 1970s. The one sport that is apparently moving in a more positive direction is NCAA Division I women’s rowing/crew. This paper explores the reasons for this phenomenon, which may offer other women’s college sports a model to help reverse the decline in women coaches taking place in their sport.
