230 University-Community Collaboration: A Tennis/Character Education Program for Disadvantaged/Special Needs Youth

A service learning program externally funded since 2009 by Tennis Serves (USTA) for minority, disabled and disadvantaged youth called PACE (Physical Activity and Character Education) will be described. The three speakers will focus upon: a) team formation and proposal development for external funding (and obtaining continued funding), b) PACE attributes (i.e., tennis, health, nutrition, and character education), and c) quantitative/qualitative program evaluation. PACE can serve as a model for university/community collaboration and student engagement.
