Although the literature suggests that reinforcement is the most effective behavioral management principle to manage students’ classroom behaviors, many teachers resort to punishment via physical activity (e.g., walking and/or running laps) during recess. Thus, students equate physical activity with punishment and are unlikely to become physically active adults. This presentation will share strategies about how physical activity could be used as a reinforcement to manage students’ classroom behaviors.
