Recently, a number of sport celebrities from Korea have received international attention and recognition including Yuna Kim, Tae-Hwan Park, Ji-Sung Park, and Hines Ward. Scholars argue that transnational Korean sport celebrities offer us a unique cultural site where complex meanings and ideologies are being produced, reproduced, and reaffirmed along the diverse social relations, and emphasize that these celebrity sites can enhance our understandings of complex power relations.
