Friday, April 1, 2011: 7:30 AM-8:30 AM
Convention Center: Room 29C
AAHE/Administer Strategies/Interventions/Programs
Presider: Jevonne Bradley, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL
Speakers: Ayanna Lyles, California University of Pennsylvania, California, PA; and Fredanna A. D. M'Cormack, Coastal Carolina University, Conway, SC
The session shares an educational strategy that is beneficial for faculty and administrators. The strategy uses critical pedagogy as a theoretical framework to improve students' cultural competence and understanding of social justice by incorporating an international internship or study abroad experience. Students are immersed in an environment where they learn about other cultures, explore commonalities and gain a global perspective of health education practice. The session provides two illustrations of the educational strategy.
