Evaluation of health-related peer education programs primarily address efficacy and effectiveness, with relatively less attention devoted to evaluating components of program implementation. We discuss findings, challenges, and insights from our study of high school students training to become peer educators. At three time points throughout one school year, we assessed their self-reported comfort to discuss selected health topics with friends, fellow students, and younger students, as well as their self-esteem, school belongingness, and coursework impediments.
