253 (CORRECTION!) Exercise Physiology Forum: Racial/Ethnic Differences: Implications for Health/Performance

Wednesday, March 30, 2011: 3:15 PM-5:15 PM
Convention Center: Room 26A
NASPE/Research/Physical Sciences
Presider: Jane Roy, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL
Speaker: Gary R. Hunter, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Birmingham, AL
CORRECTION: This session was mistakenly posted online and in the convention program book as the Sport History, Philosophy and Sociology Forum. EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY FORUM DESCRIPTION: One goal of this presentation is to identify anatomic and physiologic differences between African-Americans and European-Americans that may impact the health and performance of these groups. Estimates suggest that a significant proportion of this variation is inherited. However, understanding hereditary expression is complicated by environment (i.e., culture, diet, physical activity). A second goal is to attempt when possible to separate the hereditary from the environmental contributions to these differences. NOTE: The Sport History, Philosophy and Sociology Forum is actually Session No. 256 (What Are Kids Missing in Contemporary Youth Sport?) scheduled on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 3:15 PM-5:15 PM in Convention Center Room 29B. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that this has caused.
