Sports Medicine Symposium: What and How on “Evidence-Based”? |
The new buzzwords “evidence-based” have been recently used often for credibility/accountability of educational or interventional programs and practice. Anyone who works with the human body should critically use the best research evidence available when making decisions; however, little is done in clearly defining the “evidence.” What type of evidence and what degree of certainty should one use? Will a single study with a statistically significant result (p < .05 or .01) be adequate for the evidence? How should these decision techniques be incorporated into practice? Is there a mechanism for reaching the best decision? Who is using evidence-based approaches? |
Keyword(s): measurement/evaluation, safety/injury prevention, standards and ethics
