Perceptions of the Black Athlete: A Research Symposium
This two part symposium will focus on perceptions and sterotyping of the black athlete, and how these perceptions relate to racism. Half of the session will address the alleged racial stereotyping in portrayals of black NBA players on Sports Illustrated magazine covers from the years 1970-2003. The second half of the session looks at the black male student-athlete and his social life on a predominately white campus.
