Biomechanics of Strength Training
The objective of this symposium is to overview the scientific foundation to support or refute the use of certain techniques, equipment, and positions during the bench press, squat, and various core training exercises. The application of biomechanical concepts to strength training will be illustrated. We will clarify the principles of overload and specificity of training by demonstrating the application of muscle mechanics and joint mechanics. Finally, the use of electromyography and video analysis to understand strength training techniques will be demonstrated. The session will be of interest to strength and conditioning specialists, personal trainers, athletic trainers, coaches, physical educators and anyone with instructional responsibility in biomechanics or strength and conditioning.
