Using Pedometers to Enhance Physical Activity in a University Required Fitness Course
University fitness/wellness courses can have a positive impact on the future physical activity levels of our population. Successful programs incorporate a behavior change model with motivational tools to enhance overall fitness and wellness. This presentation will show how a teacher can incorporate the Stages of Motivational Readiness for Change model with the use of pedometers to educate students about the importance of daily physical activity. Since college students would like to increase their physical activity patterns, various methods will be shown on how to incorporate step goals from baseline values as it relates to their current stage of change.
