Over 30 million young people play sports in America. The goals for participation in sports vary based on the interested party. Coaches play both the role of developing good athletes as well as productive citizens in the community. The sports-based youth development (SBYD) is a methodology that uses sports to provide supports and opportunities for youth to be healthy, contributing citizens in our communities. While the developmental model of sport participation is used for elite athlete development. The purpose of this presentation is to inform coaches to build positive relationships with their athletes to become productive citizens as well as how to develop them through athletic performance.
