The over-representation of African American males in revenue producing sports is evident in collegiate and professional sport. The NCAA claims collegiate athletes are students first but ongoing litigation argue that the demands of the revenue producing sport makes attaining an education difficult. The purpose of this session is to examine research addressing the impact of the sport aspirations of African American males on educational attainment from a critical, historical, grade school and collegiate perspective.
