Religion and/or spirituality can be controversial topics, leading to a large part of some individuals’ identities to be ignored. However, encouraging respectful pluralism (Hicks, 2003) can allow athletic programs to legally integrate religion and/or spirituality with benefits to both coaches and athletes. Governing bodies, administrators, coaches and coaching educators should be aware of both the benefits and challenges of respectful pluralism.
