394 Southern District AAHPERD General Session: Creating Impact—From PE to the Top of the Olympic Podium

Thursday, April 25, 2013: 2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Hilton Center City: Carolina Hall
Presiders: David S. Fleming, Southern District AAHPERD President, Clemson University, Clemson, SC; and Donna Dunaway, Southern District AAHPERD Executive Director, Samford University, Birmingham, AL
Speaker: Steve Mesler, Human Capital Consultant, Calgary, AB, Canada
Steve Mesler completed his undergraduate degree in physical education at the University of Florida. This former track athlete traded in his track spikes and warm weather to pursue a decade-long journey as an Olympic bobsledder. He competed in three Olympic Games and his team ended a 62-year drought in Olympic Gold for his event in 2010. Steve has relied on his physical education background to support his physical and educational pursuits. While competing at the highest level, he was also creating an education program focused on teaching kids the principles of being successful in all facets of life. “Classroom Champions” links Olympians and Paralympians through technology with classrooms around the country and the world. He has had the opportunity to share his journey and his education program at such venues as the International Olympic Academy in Greece, the Annual Peace and Sports Conference in Sochi, Russia, and is now excited to share his stories and program with AAHPERD. Southern District’s general session is open to all convention attendees.
