285 Encouraging Ownership and Reflection Through Secondary School Fitness Portfolios

Thursday, April 25, 2013: 7:30 AM-8:30 AM
Convention Center: 207CD
NASPE/Middle and High School PE
Speaker: Andrew R. Pulling, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI
Attendees will be introduced to a physical activity journal developed by university researchers in partnership with middle school programs. The journal shifts the locus of control to students and engages them in reflective practices. Students regularly assess their activity levels and set periodic short term goals towards an end-of-the-semester goal; log weekly activities, reflect on their impact on goals, and complete worksheets regarding health-related physical activity and the implications of their decisions on well-being.
