Most physical education teachers are talented and experienced athletes. The idea of recognizing and utilizing space is a natural process for them. However, for many students we teach movement into space is more unnatural—and telling students to merely ‘spread out’ or ‘get into space’ will not foster understanding. This activity session will demonstrate how to teach the concept of space, within a complex situation, that of a small-sided game.
