Childhood obesity has tripled in the past 30 years and is associated with increased prevalence of diabetes among children and adolescents. This has important implications for the emerging role of health educators for its early detection and management, work as a member of the transdiciplinary team, and enhanced training and skills in order to fit into the ‘T2’ category of the translational process as specified by the National Institute of Health and Institute of Medicine.
