| Lifespan Motor Development: Movement by Design and Movement that Informs |
| Skill development and learning take place in two distinct contexts. Phylogenetic skills represent the evolutionary development of our coordination and control apparatus, while ontological skills meet the demands of our cultural, societal and daily living needs. Movement skill development and learning play a critical role in both biological and behavioral development. These two developmental entities once thought to be autonomous are now known to be highly integrated under the concept of embodied cognition. |
