RC 101: Introduction to the Research Consortium
This session will introduce conference attendees to the Research Consortium of AAHPERD. The Research Consortium is an “add-on” benefit for AAHPERD members; there is no additional cost associated with belonging. The Research Consortium reaches across all associations/disciplines/professions through the common thread of research. Its signature programs include Fellow recognition; awards; grants aimed at varying career stages (e.g., graduate student through established investigator) and for varying purposes (e.g., applied research and dissemination grants, association grants, and collaborative grants); and annual convention programming that includes approximately 300 presentations in multiple formats ranging from distinguished lectures, invited lectures, and peer-reviewed free-communication, poster, and symposia. Its main products are the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (research journal) and Physical Activity Today (a publication that seeks to communicate the relevance of research to practitioners). Whether you are interested in knowing, “How to join?", “How to apply for Fellow status?", "Which type of grant to apply for?", “How to be more involved?”, or simply curious to find out more about the group, this session is for you. Following an initial 20-25 minute overview of the Research Consortium’s programs, products, and services, the remainder of this session will be devoted to answering audience members’ questions.
