ACL Injury Prevention |
The gender disparity in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk has been well documented in sports medicine literature. On average, one in every 100 female high school athletes and one in ten female collegiate athletes will injure an ACL. Epidemiological studies have shown that the disparity between males and females does not occur until puberty. Coincidentally, although most anthropometric measures of growth and development between the sexes show similar trends, neuromuscular function begins to vary significantly between the sexes during and after puberty (Myer et al, 2004). |
