The Untold Effects of Hurricane Katrina: How University of New Orleans Faculty and Students Advocated for Health Promotion |
The discourse on the effects Hurricane Katrina has had on the growth of the Health Education/Health Promotion profession and higher education administration have been largely absent. The University of New Orleans (UNO) intends to eliminate the entire Department of Human Performance and Health Promotion as well as its degree programs. This 60 minute session is comprised of three oral presentations regarding the experiences of UNO’s Health Promotion faculty and students following Hurricane Katrina. Emphasis is placed on degree advancement, research adaptation, higher education administration as well as advocacy to retain the Health Promotion degree program and faculty at UNO. |
