Physical activity is a healthy lifestyle that is among the most important for promoting health. Assessing physical activity (PA) is necessary in the study of relationships between PA, health outcomes, and design of interventions to promote PA. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the strengths and limitations of existing techniques to measure PA. Consideration will be given to self-reports, pedometers, accelerometers, and heart rate monitors. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience each technique and using each instrument. Finally, recommendations will be given on best practices and alternatives to measure PA in children, adolescents, and adults. |
