Snow or No Snow: Physical Education and Recreation Snowshoe Programming
This session explains plans and action steps for including snowshoeing in physical education classes and recreational after-school programs on snow or grass. Participants will learn: 1) practical information on snowshoe terminology, construction, maintenance, storage, and procurement. 2) games and activities that can be played across a variety of skills and among students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. 3) strategies for incorporating heart rate monitors and pedometers. 4) suggestions on how snowshoeing can integrate with other subjects such as environmental awareness, history, social studies, etc. 5) samples of student assessment. 6) On-line curriculum integration with pre-service teachers.
