Mentoring Female Faculty within International Physical Education Departments |
This session provides information about mentoring women in leadership positions within physical education departments in an international setting. A phenomenological research design was chosen to examine the mentoring relationship. A group of women from a variety of colleges/universities were contacted at the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) conference (N = 5). Interviews from the women in IAPESGW were shared from a personal life history perspective to the present and provided an understanding about the reasons they mentor, what organizational factors inhibit or facilitate their mentoring, preferred protégé characteristics, and the outcomes of mentoring. |
