Musical Training for Dance Educators |
This session explores key elements of music that constitute an essential component of the knowledge base for dance educators. The workshop will highlight aspects of music/rhythm theory and motor control/learning theory pertinent to learning and teaching dance. Practical activities will focus on perceptual (auditory acuity) and motor (kinaesthetic acuity) rhythmic abilities; metric and non-metric rhythm; synchronisation of movement to music; rhythmic elements that characterize specific dance skills; modified music analysis; and basic rules of accompaniment with percussion. The workshop content will be linked to performing, making, and appreciating dance, and to National Dance Content Standards 1, 2, 4, and 7. |
