Childhood Obesity and The Value of Play
Council co-sponsors: Facilities and Equipment/Fitness & Wellness Childhood obesity is one of the major concerns in our country today. We’ll review the contributing factors and examine studies that show the amazing effect free play can have on combating obesity, increasing a child’s daily caloric burn, while developing strength, coordination, and skill. Play offers benefits to children of all body types, without fear of being singled out or failure. Play is considered fun, and children do not need encouragement to have fun, therefore well designed play spaces can be a major contributor in the fight against childhood obesity.
